Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming along today to the MPB Community Association meeting.

Today, I will give another brief update on what’s happing in MPB, Division 1 and Council. I won’t be covering to much today as it has been a long meeting and there is still a lot to get through. I will allow time at the end for Q&A, so if you can hold your questions until then, that would be great.

MPB Master Plan

First up, I will start with an update of the MPB Master Plan. Stage 3 of the Master Plan works which is the Foreshore area in front of the new Surf Club Building. These works have had a hiccup and have been delayed due to the beach erosion that is occurring in that area.

We have managed to slow the erosion with the rock wall groin that has been installed on the beach, but this is only a temporary measure and has a temporary approval from the State Government and can only stay in place until we come up with a permanent solution to address the erosion problem in this area.

Council has to come up with a plan to address the erosion, this then needs to be consulted widely with stakeholders and the Community, then it will be sent to State for approval and if approved, will be implemented and hopefully will work. The temporary erosion control that we have constructed needs to stay in place until the permanent erosion solution is in place.

The big problem is that we can’t remove the old footings from the old Surf Club building until the area is deemed to be stable and permanent erosion control is in place. So I hear you ask, what does this mean for the Foreshore works? Well, what it means is that what we were planning to develop on the foreshore area has had to be changed to fit with the footprint that we are allowed to work with for now. This has basically seen the original design for the Celebration Lawn area cut in half and moved slightly towards the Caravan Park. The good news is these works have been approved and are now currently being redesigned and should go out to tender for Construction before Christmas this year with works commencing on the areas in the New Year, hopefully.

Eventually when all erosion works are completed and proved to be working, we will be able to construct the final half of the Celebration Lawn area. I am constantly pushing for these works to be done sooner than later, but it will be a long process due to the approval process and funding for the works required.

The foreshore pathway that was washed out and had to be removed due to the erosion is being redesigned and will be reconstructed in the same area but closer to the Caravan Park boundary. These works should be underway before Christmas.

Moore Park Beach Wetlands Bridge

Funds have been allocated in the current budget to have the bridge across the Wetlands lagoon replaced. Design works are currently underway, and the bridge and abutments are to be fully replaced. This work will take some time as engineering and design works must be completed before it can go to tender for construction.

Hopefully, this will all happen quickly, and we can get a new bridge in place asap. The current bridge had to be closed to pedestrian use as it was deemed unsafe for use.

Anzac Park redevelopment and Bundaberg Aquatic Centre

The big news for the region is that the Official Opening of the Anzac Park Redevelopment Stage 1 was held yesterday. This area is now open and available for public to use. The Bundaberg Aquatic Centre is nearing completion and should be open within a couple of weeks.

Today’s report is only a snapshot of what has been happening in Council and the region, there is always so much going on and most of the important stuff I do share on my Facebook Page as it happens. We do have time for some questions from the floor, does anyone have any questions, queries or just something that they want to discuss or raise?
