MPB Community Association AGM Report 2026
Thank-you to everyone that came along to the MPB Community Association AGM this morning, as promised here is a copy of my report that I presented at the meeting today.
Report for MPB Community Association Meeting Saturday 17/10/2026
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming along today to the MPB Community Association meeting.

Today, I will give a brief update on what’s happing in MPB, Division 1 and Council. I won’t be covering to much today as it has been a long meeting and there is still a lot to get through. I will allow time at the end for Q&A, so if you can hold your questions until then, that would be great.
MPB Foreshore Erosion
First up, I will start with an update of the Foreshore Erosion. Dredging works are currently underway to relocate the Moore Park Creek mouth.
Beach sand re-nourishment works are to be undertaken on the foreshore in front of the Surf Club and the foreshore park area.
This area will be monitored for an extended period and if erosion is still evident, the breakwater will then be constructed. Coastal experts/engineers are confident that the relocation of the creek mouth will allow natural build-up of the beach in these areas, without the need for the breakwater. Their call, not mine, but I hope they are right.
Works on a revised foreshore enhancement/beautification plan are underway.

Timeline and Priorities are as follows-
1. Complete the beach nourishment, beach protection and dredging activity by end of this month;
2. Complete the masterplan balance of works by Christmas holidays;
3. Start the SEMP now continue it through next year so we can seamlessly work with the community on the longer term solutions having mitigated the emergent threat.

Moore Park Beach Wetlands Bridge
Councils Engineering and Civil teams reviewed all options and landed on insitu reconstruction of the existing bridge. When replacement costs well exceeded budgeted expectations (3 times what was originally allowed) this was found to be the most cost-effective option.
Councils bridge team has two road bridges to complete in coming months which must be complete in the dry season and then they will move on to replacement works on the Wetlands bridge. However, Council Civil works team have commenced work on the boardwalk, with the initial process being the removal of damaged materials and resetting structural elements.
This entire bridge rebuild will take some time, but at last its happening and will be done as soon as can be.

Lions Park Playground
Several components of the playground equipment have deteriorated due to corrosion, resulting in some sections being deemed unsafe for public use. In addition, a number of the protective sleeves on the chains have perished, creating a potential finger entrapment hazard.
We have kept the double swings open for use in the mean-time, and referred the public to use the nearby playground on Surf Club Drive.
I have requested that this Playground be considered as part of the Budget deliberations, for full replacement/upgrade.

Murdoch's Road Speed limit reduction
The speed limit on Murdoch's Rd in areas that use to be 80km/hr has been lowered to 70km/hr. This change has been undertaken due to Council receiving many complaints over many years about the speed of the road. This information was passed on the Speed Advisory Committee (an independent group made up of representatives from Council, TMR, QPS& Qld Ambulance.)
The group accessed the situation and carried out an audit of Murdoch’s Rd and recommended back to Council that the speed limit be lowered. Council staff have installed the new speed limit signs this week.

Today’s report is only a snapshot of what has been happening in Council and the region, there is always so much going on and most of the important stuff I do share on my Facebook Page as it happens.
We do have time for some questions from the floor, does anyone have any questions, queries or just something that they want to discuss or raise?
Q & A
(Various questions on many topics were answered from the floor.)
My report will be posted on my Facebook Page later today.
Thank you everyone for coming along today and for your continued support.
Talk soon,
Regards
Cr. Jason Bartels
